The trouble with nostalgia is that it has a way of painting a glossy veneer over our memory causing us
to slip & slide on the illusion that life was so much better then. It wasn't. We know it wasn't, but we just prefer to remember it another way...

The 1970's Blues
Vauxhall Viva
Blue cortina
Austin Allegro
& a Ford Capri
Oxford bags
Rope wedge shoes
Sloppy Joes
& timbuktu's
The 1970's blues
when The National Front
whose blunt
sinister cynical
rage filled
the stage
The 1970's blues
when On The Buses
& Love Thy Neighbour
sat on opposites sides
of the comedy bench
when a Monkey Wrench
was more than a tool
& a pool
of blood
lay on ground
where skinheads found
they had something to cheer
over a beer
at the Anchor & Hope
The 1970's blues
where you choose
to press play
& stay
in the best time
you ever had
glad
wasn't the word
so now
we close
one eye
& continue
to hail the
lie
of the
1970's
blues
